Taylor Swift: Family Photo Silliness - The Gossip Girls

Posted Wednesday April 27, 2011 6:25 PM GMT

She may be one of the top recording artists in the world, but Taylor Swift is also quite the character, as evidenced by a new family photo that has been released.

In the shot, the “Should’ve Said No” songstress is wearing a milkmaid getup while her 19-year-old brother Austin sports a German lederhosen/tunic top ensemble.

Along with the photo, Taylor posted, “I finally got to see my brother and give him his birthday present - this outfit I bought in Germany.”

Miss Swift took Austin as her date to the People’s Choice Awards back in January, following her breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Enter MTV's Taylor Swift 'Speak Now' Video Contest!

Taylor SwiftWe know you've been listening to Taylor Swift's new album, Speak Now, on repeat, and we bet you've got nearly all of the lyrics memorized (not to mention tons of theories about who she's singing about)! And, of course, you’re not the only one.

Taylor Swift superfan, Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber founder and friend of MTV News, Danielle Owens-Reid had a lot to say about what each song on the album means, and she managed to do it all in under 60 seconds (without losing her breath!). So guess what!? We’re challenging you to do the same!

You see, Danielle thinks that "Dear John," could be about John Mayer (like many are speculating) or John Malkovich (but she's not judging), and "Enchanted" is about fighting dragons, but you might feel completely different.

Here’s your chance to speak your mind on Speak Now, by recapping the entire album (that's all 14 songs!) in under 60 seconds. Upload a video of yourself to Your.MTV.com with "Taylor Swift: Speak Now Recap" in the headline. Make sure to follow all of the guidelines for submission as outlined on Your.MTV.com, and keep it original (that means you can't have Taylor Swift's music playing in the background or use her lyrics). We'll review all submissions and showcase our favorites on the blog throughout the week.

Good luck!

Love, etc.: Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan are over; Taylor Swift and Jake ... - Washington Post (blog)

Watch out, Jake! (Jennifer Graylock/AP)Split: Shia LaBeouf, 24, and Carey Mulligan, 25, who have ended a relationship that began last year roughly around the time the publicity machine for their new movie "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" was gearing up and lasted until, well, vaguely recently, reports People. In similar-sounding news...
Linked: Taylor Swift, 20, and Jake Gyllenhaal, 29, who set off a brushfire in the tabloids and gossip sites this week by brunching in Brooklyn, picking apples in the country and, in one vaguely-sourced account, holding hands. Watch out, Jake, she's gonna write a song about you! The Grammy winner just released a much-discussed CD, and the Oscar nominee -- checking ..... yes, has a new rom-com out next month. Taylor Swift: By-The-Numbers | Billboard.com

Upon the release of Taylor Swift's third studio album, "Speak Now," Chart Beat looks at the numerous records that the star country singer/songwriter/producer has already set since her arrival just more than four years ago.

Swift first graced a Billboard tally when her debut single, "Tim McGraw," debuted at the anchor position (No. 60) on the Country Songs chart dated July 1, 2006.

HER 'SONG'S: Swift is the only female artist to collect five top 10s from a debut album in the 56-year history of Country Songs.

Here is a look at the Country Songs chart performance of the five singles from "Taylor Swift":

Peak Position, Title, Peak Year
No. 6, "Tim McGraw," 2007
No. 2, "Teardrops on My Guitar," 2007
No. 1 (six weeks), "Our Song," 2007-08
No. 3, "Picture to Burn," 2008
No. 1 (two weeks), "Should've Said No," 2007-08

With the six-week reign of "Our Song," Swift joined just four other women who have claimed such lengthy stays on top: Kitty Wells ("It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," six weeks, 1952); Connie Smith ("Once a Day," eight, 1964); Faith Hill ("Breathe," six, 2000); and, Carrie Underwood ("Jesus, Take the Wheel," six, 2006).

MORE TO THE 'STORY': Swift followed the unprecedented success of her first album's singles on Country Songs with an additional five top 10s from her second studio set, "Fearless."

In the chart's archives, only two other acts have banked top 10s from each of their first two releases: Brooks & Dunn notched five top 10s each from "Brand New Man" and "Hard Workin' Man" (1991-94) and Dixie Chicks hatched five top 10s from their major label debut "Wide Open Spaces" and six from "Fly" (1998-2002).

Here is a look at how the five songs promoted to radio from "Fearless" fared on Country Songs:

Peak Position, Title, Peak Year
No. 1 (two weeks), "Love Story," 2008
No. 2, "White Horse," 2009
No. 1 (two weeks), "You Belong With Me," 2009
No. 7, "Fifteen," 2009
No. 10, "Fearless," 2010

UP WHERE SHE 'BELONG'S: After becoming the first country artist to win a Moonman at the MTV Video Music Awards last year (Johnny Cash's "Hurt" was honored for Jean-Yves Escoffier's cinematography in 2003), Swift likewise broke barriers on Billboard's Radio Songs survey.

On the Oct. 3, 2009, chart, "You Belong With Me" rose 2-1 to become the first country crossover No. 1 since the radio airplay list adopted Nielsen BDS-monitored data in 1990.

Previously among country singles, Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" (1998), Faith Hill's "Breathe" (2000) and Swift's own "Love Story" (March 2009) had each peaked as high as No. 2 on Radio Songs.

'FEARLESS' PEERLESS: With 11 weeks logged at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart between November 2008 and March 2009, "Fearless" boasts the longest command for an album by a female artist in the 2000s.

In the Billboard 200's 54-year history, the set is one of just seven albums by women to rule for 11 weeks or more:

Weeks At No. 1, Artist, Title, Peak Year
20, Whitney Houston, "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, 1992
15, Carole King, "Tapestry," 1971
14, Whitney Houston, " Whitney Houston," 1986
13, Judy Garland, "Judy at Carnegie Hall," 1961
12, Alanis Morissette, "Jagged Little Pill," 1995
11, Taylor Swift, "Fearless," 2008
11, Mariah Carey, "Mariah Carey," 1991

SWIFT STARTS: When the title cut from "Speak Now" debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 two weeks ago, Swift rewrote the mark for most top 10 launches in the chart's 52-year ledger.

The song became Swift's sixth title to arrive in the Hot 100's top tier, eclipsing Mariah Carey's career sum, tallied between 1995 and 1998. Previously ahead of the release of "Speak Now," focus track "Mine" premiered at No. 3 in August.

Last week, Swift padded her lead with the No. 6 bow of "Back to December." The debut made Swift the first artist ever to begin in the Hot 100's top 10 in consecutive weeks.

Here is a recap of the acts with the most top 10 Hot 100 entrances:

7, Taylor Swift
5, Mariah Carey
4, the Beatles
4, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana
4, Eminem
4, Janet Jackson
4, Kanye West

Swift is likely to add an eighth such strong start when the Hot 100 is refreshed Thursday (Oct. 28), as "Mean," the final preview track from "Speak Now," is expected to open in the top 10.

The following week, Swift will add more accolades to her already impressive Billboard chart history with the arrival of "Speak Now" on the Billboard 200 and Country Albums.

Taylor Swift Says to Love What You Loved When You Were 6 - CMT.com (blog)

Taylor Swift Says to Love What You Loved When You Were 6October 26, 2010; Written by Alison BonaguroTaylor Swift Photo Credit: Brad Barket/PictureGroupTaylor Swift answered some questions Monday night (Oct. 25) during a live video streaming event on CMT.com and other sites within MTV Networks. And of all the responses she gave, this one stood out to me. "We can't stop loving the things we loved when we were 6," she said when she was asked about living life to its fullest. She gives the example of being happy just to be at the grocery store picking up ingredients to bake something. She loved it then, she loves it now. (By the way, if she's right, expect to see me doing a lot of cartwheels in the coming weeks.) "I think that as you grow up, as you get older, we can't get bitter, we can't get jaded. So I think that growing up, the things that make you happy, that list should get bigger as time goes by," she said. There was also talk of her musical influences (her dad played a lot of Simon & Garfunkel and her mom liked Def Leppard) and how it was the trifecta of Faith Hill, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks that ultimately lured her over to the country side.

Taylor Swift's 'Speak Now' On Track for Massive Billboard 200 ...

by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | 10? 26, 2010 2:54 EDT

Though we've yet to unveil whether Sugarland's "The Incredible Machine" or Kings of Leon's "Come Around Sundown" has won the battle for the No. 1 crown on this week's Billboard 200 chart, we're already looking at next week's chart, where Taylor Swift's "Speak Now," released on Monday (Oct. 25), is aiming for a monster debut.

Industry prognosticators are suggesting the Big Machine set may arrive with as much as 800,000 to 900,000 copies sold by week's end on Oct. 31. And, there's even a chance it could approach 1 million.

Taylor Swift: The Billboard Cover Story

Swift's start is on track be more than 2010's current biggest week, when Eminem's "Recovery" arrived at No. 1 with 741,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan. If "Speak Now's" fortunes turn out to be especially rosy, it could be the industry's first album to sell 1 million copies in one week since Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III" bowed with 1,006,000 in June of 2008.

Photos: Taylor Swift's Fashion Evolution

"Speak Now's" sales must be music to the industry's ears, after many superstar album releases this year have failed to meet or exceed first-week expectations. A month ago, sources were projecting the "Speak Now" would start with 750,000.

Taylor Swift's last album, "Fearless," started at No. 1 with 592,000 in November 2008 and has sold 6 million.

Taylor Goes Solo Today Despite Jake Romance Rumors - PopSugar.com

Taylor Swift rocked out this morning on the Today Show. The singer performed the title track from her brand-new album Speak Now, which is out today, and also made time to sign a few autographs. Taylor has been hanging out in NYC for the past week, surprising fans with a secret concert yesterday and apparently getting cozy with Jake Gyllenhaal over the weekend. Jake is one of many famous guys to whom Taylor has been linked — in addition to reportedly romancing Joe Jonas, Cory Monteith, and Taylor Lautner, she's rumored to have just written a song about John Mayer.

To see more Taylor, just read more.

Taylor Swift's Speak Now: The Reviews Are In! » MTV Newsroom

We're inching steadily toward the holiday season, which means that you'll have to start avoiding your uncles, making frustrating travel plans and purchasing high-profile albums at your local music emporium. The holiday music season began last week with the highly-anticipated new album by Kings of Leon, and this week it gets kicked up a notch with the release of Taylor Swift's excellent new album Speak Now. Swift's third album is a bold step forward for the pop-country crossover star, as it retains much of the same polish and snap as her breakthrough album Fearless but makes moves into much more personal lyrical territory. It's just enough of a gamble to seem bold and just familiar enough to keep current fans satisfied.

But what do the critics think? They are largely in agreement regarding the excellence of Speak Now. In her review in Entertainment Weekly, Leah Greenblatt called Speak Now's songs "perfectly contained snow globes of romance and catharsis, whole cinematic narratives rendered in four-to six-minute miniatures." She added, "Beneath Swift's not-a-girl, not-yet-a-woman sweetness lurks a rigorous and very skillful technique; love may confound her, but the art of expert songcraft clearly doesn't."

Ann Powers of the Los Angeles Times is also blown away by Swift's evolution as a songwriter and arranger. "Swift is naming names during the media cycle accompanying this release — the guitarist John 'The Player' Mayer is the cradle-robber in 'Dear John,' Taylor Lautner the lost prince of 'Back to December' — but the gossip surrounding the music is much less interesting than the maturation of her sound," Powers wrote. Chris Willman concurred. "[Speak Now is] an enormous breakthrough in songwriting maturity, while hardly forsaking the childlike lack of pretense that made earlier efforts such guilt-free ear candy," he wrote in The Hollywood Reporter.

Eric Danton of the Hartford Courant also wants people to wade through the tabloid fodder to get to the exquisite songs. "[Speak Now has] provided great fodder as devotees of celebrity gossip speculate on who, exactly, she's singing about," he wrote. "But with Swift's endearing appeal as a singer and ever-growing skill as a songwriter, Speak Now makes for great listening, too."

But the most illuminating review goes to Tris McCall, whose take in the Star-Ledger was especially interesting, as he compared Swift to Paramore singer (and Swift pal) Hayley Williams, literary critic Leslie Fielder and 50 Cent. "Swift could be that once-in-a-generation storyteller who was born to make innocence feel as formidable as a gangster rapper's gat," he wrote. "It's not much of a reach to compare the Swift of Speak Now to an emcee in a beef, and the subjects of some of these songs must be reeling today. Call her a fine, if unimaginative, tunesmith. Call her a skilled weaver of narrative. But don't call her a sweetheart. This princess rules with an iron scepter, and she’s kicking butt and taking names."

What do you think of Taylor Swift's new album Speak Now? Let us know in the comments!

Taylor Swift Dating Jake Gyllenhaal Is SUCH An Epic Upgrade ...

(Credit: Getty Images)

Taylor Swift has come far from the days of Taylor + Taylor (Lautner, obviously) and Joe Jonas. Lately, the 20-year-old country-pop phenom just LOVES to kick it with an older dude! And it's speculated that Taylor Swift's moved on from notorious serial dater/chronic TMI-er John Mayer. It's been reported that Taylor "Fearless"-ly called John Mayer out on his "dark and twisted games" on her new song, "Dear John." And to prove that John Mayer is SO earlier-this-year, Taylor Swift has been seen spending time with steamy Jake Gyllenhaal, who's 9 years older than her. If the rumors are true, we think this liaison is an upgrade worthy of a PARADE. Prince of Persia's Jake Gyllenhaal is mind-bogglingly beautiful.

Multiple sources spotted Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal out in New York City, and Taylor even brought him to the Saturday Night Live set where her bestie Emma Stone was hosting last weekend. The pair were also reportedly seen walking around Brooklyn together, and they just went apple-picking together. Maybe Taylor's over rock stars as potential suitors and has returned to Hollywood for boyfriend fodder?

Are you guys into this unlikely pair? Or did you prefer when Taylor Swift dated within her age-bracket (and name, in the latter case) with Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner? OR, were you pro "John Tayer"? Sound off in the comments!

Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift score CMT Music Awards nominationsComments (1) April 27, 2011 | 3:33pm

Justin Acts such as Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are virtual certainties when it comes to the 2011 CMT Music Awards, which announced its nominations Wednesday morning.

But Justin Bieber?

The pop phenomenon scored his first-ever country nod for his collaboration with Rascal Flatts on a reworked version of his track "That Should Be Me" for his EP, “Never Say Never –- The Remixes.”

Nominated in the collaborative video of the year category, Biebs is up against the Jason Aldean (who leads with four nominations) and Kelly Clarkson duet "Don't You Wanna Stay”; Kid Rock’s Sheryl Crow-assisted "Collide"; Aaron Lewis’ "Country Boy," which features George Jones and Charlie Daniels; and the Loretta Lynn, Miranda Lambert and Crow team-up, "Coal Miner's Daughter."

Swift trailed behind Aldean with three nods. Her video for "Mine" is vying for best web video of the year, a new category going to online performances of songs, female video of the year and video of the year.

Underwood is up for two trophies, with her video for "Undo It" up for female video of the year and video of the year.

Winners are determined by fan votes. The show takes place June 8 in Nashville, Tenn.

(CNN) -- Airport terminals are always good places for people watching, but star gazing will be more like it for a select group of travelers at New York's John F. Kennedy International.

JetBlue has announced that country and pop star Taylor Swift will perform live at the airline's Terminal 5 on Wednesday as part of its "Live from T5" concert series.

The concert will take place in the post-security Marketplace area and will only be seen by passengers who are traveling through the terminal that day. No tickets of admission will be sold to the public. The event will take place some time in the evening, said JetBlue spokeswoman Alison Croyle.

The airline calls it an "unexpected surprise" for its passengers.

"This gives our customers a free, live entertainment experience and intimate access to one of the most popular artists in the industry today," Fiona Morrisson, director of brand management and advertising at JetBlue, said in a statement.

Previous artists in the "Live from T5" series include Sarah McLachlan and the rock band Daughtry.

For travelers worried about fighting their way through the audience Wednesday to catch a flight, the airline assures that won't be a problem.

"The space provided will allow for customers to go around the event if they choose not to watch," Croyle said.

After her gig at JFK, Swift will board a charter flight to Los Angeles, California, where she will perform a concert on board.

Passengers on the "Flight Across America" will include Swift's band, crew, management and contest winners who were selected through a sweepstakes run by Swift and CMT.com, said JetBlue spokesman Mateo Lleras.

He declined to provide details on how the concert would be arranged in flight, but said it would "all [be] within FAA regulations, of course."

Swift has been promoting her new album, "Speak Now."

Exclusive: Yahoo Courts Former News Corp. Digital Exec Ross Levinsohn As U.S. Head

Kara Swisher, On Tuesday October 26, 2010, 3:11 pm EDT

He’s baaaaaack.

Former Fox Interactive Media President Ross Levinsohn, that is, who is the top candidate to replace Hilary Schneider as Yahoo’s U.S. head, according to several sources close to the situation.

While the deal is not completely struck, sources said Levinsohn is very close to taking the job.

Sources added that if he does, he is likely to remain living in Los Angeles, where he has long been located.

The move is a bold one for Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, who desperately needs to bring in major Internet talent to the company.

Yahoo has been rocked by management turmoil–especially in the media and advertising unit–and also by troubling weakness in revenue growth and innovative spark.

Levinsohn, one of the more colorful of Web personalities, certainly has the spark.

Levinsohn is currently an investor at Fuse Capital, which funds digital media and communications start-ups.

But sources said he has been itching to get back to a big company with scale in the digital media business and has been interested in Yahoo for some months.

At Yahoo, presumably, he will have purview over what Schneider did (and perhaps more), including the Silicon Valley Internet giant’s powerful media properties and its large advertising sales force in the U.S.

It’s likely Yahoo will hire a major ad sales exec to work under Levinsohn, and sources said the company has been in contact with several prominent execs to fill the slot left open after the March departure of Joanne Bradford to Demand Media.

Besides Schneider, also among the recent departures in the unit Levinsohn would run: VP of Media Jimmy Pitaro, who went to Disney, and Audience head David Ko, who moved to social gaming phenom Zynga.

Until now, Levinsohn is best known for his stint running digital operations for News Corp.’s then FIM unit.

It was at FIM that he rose to prominence after he bought MySpace, the social networking site that was once the hottest property on the Web.

At the time, Levinsohn and other execs also struck a gigantically lucrative advertising search deal with Google that garnered MySpace huge revenues.

After leaving News Corp. after repeated clashes with MySpace co-founder and CEO Chris DeWolfe, he partnered with former AOL CEO Jon Miller in another investment company, Velocity Capital.

Ironically, both Miller and Levinsohn were the top choices of billionaire shareholder activist Carl Icahn as the execs he wanted to run Yahoo when he was agitating for change there a few years back in the midst of the failed takeover attempt by Microsoft.

When reached today, Miller–who now is the Chief Digital Officer of News Corp.–declined to comment on his former associate.

But he said: “If Yahoo is so lucky to get Ross, it would be great, because he is one of few people who understands all media.”

Indeed, Levinsohn is better known as a dealmaker and media exec than as a sales expert, although he did manage digital advertising properties at FIM.

Previous to FIM, Levinsohn ran Fox Sports Interactive Media. He has also worked at the AltaVista Network–an early search pioneer–CBS Sportsline and Time Warner’s pay cable giant HBO. In addition, according to his bio at Fuse, he also worked at Saatchi and Saatchi and in sports management and marketing at ProServ and Lapin and Rose Communications.

Yahoo declined to comment about the possible appointment of Levinsohn.

(And let’s hope Yahoo–especially the hip-shooting Bartz–doesn’t announce his arrival by also unfairly kicking former execs in the media and advertising unit in the teeth, as has been cloddishly done already on the down low.)

BoomTown has contacted Levinsohn via email and phone and has not heard back from the typically voluble exec.

But you can enjoy his stylings here, in an interview I did with him in 2007:

Taylor Swift: Family Photo Silliness | Celebrity-gossip.net

What Do You Think Of Taylor Swift's Glittery Get-Up On NBC's 'Today Show ... - Hollywood Life

Getty Images

Taylor Swift opted for yet another glittery ensemble for her Oct. 26 performance on NBC’s Today Show, where she played some fan faves for a wild crowd. Between her dress and her equally shimmery guitar, we could barely tell whether we were looking at at Tay-Swift or a walking disco ball! The girly-girl look is awesome most of the time, but maybe this is a bit of system overload for daytime.

When someone says “Taylor Swift,” the star’s princess persona always comes to mind — from her draping, reflective Kaufman Franco gown at the 2009 VMAs, to her Romeo and Juliet-esque “Love Story” music video. Everything about her screams rainbows and butterflies, but not even in a bizarre Mariah Carey way. After all, it’s Tay-Swift’s image that has solidified her as a tween queen, almost as much as her catchy tunes!

What do you think, Hollywoodlifers? Did you love Taylor’s latest sparkly number, or was it a little too much this early in the morning?
