Taylor Swift may be looking at surpassing the million-unit mark during the first sales week of her new album "Speak Now," but earlier this week, she was tackling the material of another multi-platinum artist.

The "Fearless" singer performed Coldplay's smash hit "Viva La Vida" quietly for BBC Radio 2. Forget the histrionic drums and bells of the original -- Swift keeps things tame with just her voice, her guitar and another acoustic. No fireworks light the studio at the end, but the subtle references to royalty keep us wondering if and what her personal connection to the tune is.

Her personal tales certainly seem to dominate her new tunes for "Speak Now." "Dear John" ignited speculation that the song was about bud John Mayer, while "Story of Us" addresses and ex-boyfriend. "Innocent," performed at the MTV VMAs this year, was on the Kanye West incident that dominated the Awards show last year.

Next week and in January, Swift is taking to the land, sea and air to promote "Speak Now." She's skedded to play a terminal at JFK Airport in New York on Oct. 27, then will play on a JetBlue flight bound for Los Angeles. On Jan. 21, she'll be the lounge act on a Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas cruise.

<b>Taylor Swift</b> Might Sell A Million Records In A Week

In case you've been looking the other way for the past two years, Taylor Swift is pretty dang popular. Popular enough that industry analysts say she is well on track to sell a million copies of Speak Now, which arrived on shelves yesterday. That's impressive, especially considering we're supposed to be living in the era of dying album sales. The last artist to top the platinum mark in a week was Lil Wayne, with 2008's Tha Carter III. It's funny, I can't think of two pop artists more opposite than Taylor and Weezy.

So, naturally, that means My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has to go diamond in its first week, right? Right? [Billboard]

Taylor Swift Loves Being Single - Post Chronicle

Taylor Swift Loves Being Single
by Staff

Taylor Swift doesn't need a boyfriend.

Taylor Swift, the 20-year-old country singer - who has dated 'Twilight' star Taylor Lautner and was famously dumped by Joe Jonas over the phone - loves being single and doesn't worry about finding a guy.

Speaking in an interview in the new edition of People magazine out this Friday (22.10.10), she said: "Being single is wonderful and I love it. I don't ever have a morning where I wake up and say, 'I really need to find a boyfriend today.' "

However, Taylor - who admits she has experienced her fair share of heartbreak - also revealed she deals with the emotions which surround a failed relationship in her music.

She explained: "I will say everything in my music. There's been extreme joy, extreme pain, extreme curveballs. Sometimes when things impact you so intensely, it takes writing a song to get over them."

There has been some speculation that the song 'Dear John' on Taylor's new album 'Speak Now' refers to womanising singer John Mayer.

The pair worked on a track together last year and were rumoured to be secretly dating.

In the song, Taylor sings: "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? Maybe it's you and your sick need to give love and take it away."

However, Taylor refuses to confirm that the song is directed at 33-year-old John, only saying: "A lot of times when people's relationships end, they write an email to that person and say everything that they wish they would have said. A lot of times they don't push send … This was a tough one to write, and I guess putting it on the album was pushing send." (c) BANG

Taylor Swift's 'Speak Now': Take that - Philadelphia Daily News

Posted on Tue, Oct. 26, 2010 By Dan DeLuca

Inquirer Music Critic

Heck hath no fury like a songwriter scorned, and Taylor Swift has the deadliest of combinations at her disposal: a poison pen and a massive audience.

There are 14 songs on Speak Now (Big Machine ***), Swift's highly enjoyable, a-tad-too-long new album, and, as she writes in the CD booklet's "Prologue," all are "open letters. Each is written with a specific person in mind, telling them what I meant to tell them in person."

In the most entertaining episodes on Speak Now, the third full-length effort by the Wyomissing-raised, golden-tressed 20-year-old singer who sold more albums in 2008 and 2009 than any other artist, what Swift meant to say was something like "you did me wrong, buddy. And now it's payback time."

Or as she puts it herself in the Prologue's P.S.: "To all the boys who inspired this album, you should've known. ;)"

And, indeed, they would have, if they'd been paying attention to the body of work of the leggy singer-songwriter, who wrote the words and music to all of the songs on Speak Now, rather than her other attributes. Going back to her 2006 country-pop debut Taylor Swift, the guitarist and songwriter has been settling scores with wayward beaus on tunes like "Picture to Burn," in which she warned: "Go and tell your friends that I'm obsessive and crazy / That's fine, I'll tell mine you're gay."

The difference is that now that Swift is a global pop Grammy-winning superstar, the foolhardy fellows in line for comeuppance - or, in some cases, forgiveness - are famous folk who, like her, populate the Web pages of celebrity gossip sheets.

Case in Point No. 1 would be John Mayer, the 33-year-old guitarist and heartbreak specialist who was linked with Swift last year and who would surely seem to be the subject of "Dear John."

(Swift has not officially ID'd which song goes with which household name, though in many instances her subjects are obvious, such as rapper Kanye West, the subject of the patronizing and rather tepid "Innocent," who spoiled Swift's MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech in 2009 and who "I forgive for what he said in front of the whole world.")

Forgiveness is not in the cards for the soulless perpetrator in "Dear John," an almost seven-minute, never-boring power ballad that shouts J'accuse! to a scalawag with a "sick need to give love and then take it away," letting him know that "all the girls that you've run dry / Have tired, lifeless eyes / Cause you've burned them out."

Bad guys aren't the only ones who find themselves stung in Swift's songs. There are bad girls, too, like the subject of "Better Than Revenge," in which she makes a voodoo doll of a boyfriend stealer who is "not a saint, and she's not what you think, she's an actress / But she's better known for the things that she does on the mattress." Web watchers speculate it's about Camilla Belle, Joe Jonas' romantic interest after he and Swift broke up in 2008.

There are others who come under fire in Speak Now, too, like an unnamed critic in the catchy, country-flavored "Mean," who called her vocal skills into question and who "pointed out my flaws again, as if I don't already see them." With the Swift marketing machine behind it, that song is poised to become an anti-bullying anthem:

"Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me / And all you're ever gonna be is mean," Swift sings.

The vulnerability that Swift shows in "Mean," even while lashing out, carries over to other songs.

Putting liars and cheaters in their place makes for lively listening, up to a point. But along with the growing confidence as a writer that is apparent on tunes like "Dear John," the most heartening songs on Speak Now are the ones in which she proves big enough to acknowledge her own shortcomings.

Swift has always been precocious, but she seems more mature than ever on songs like "Back to December," which is allegedly about yet another romance, with muscled-up werewolf boy actor Taylor Lautner. That one ends in heartbreak, too, but this time there's no guilty party for Swift to point the finger at, except the one staring back at her in the mirror.

Taylor Swift Takes Aim At 'Mean' Grammy Critics In New Song - Post Chronicle

Taylor Swift Takes Aim At 'Mean' Grammy Critics In New Song
by Staff

Taylor Swift has lashed out at the "mean" critics who slammed her off-key Grammy night duet with Stevie Nicks in a candid new song from her upcoming album Speak Now.

The 20-year-old star was panned for her lackluster vocals at the awards show last January (10), which Swift's team blamed on technical issues.

And now the singer is speaking out about the controversy in a track called Mean from her new record.

She sings: "Drunken rumbling on about how I can't sing/But all you are is mean/And a liar/And pathetic/And alone in life/And mean."

Blasting bitter reviewers, she talks about overcoming harsh criticism, continuing: "You with your words like knives and swords and weapons that you use against me/You have knocked me off my feet again, got me feeling like nothing/You with voice like nails on a chalkboard calling me out when I'm wounded/You picking on the weaker man.

"Someday I'll be living in a big old city/And all you're ever gonna be is mean/Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me/And all you're ever gonna be is mean/Why you gotta be so mean?"

Explaining the inspiration behind the song to E! News, Swift says, "When you do what I do, which is you put yourself out there for a lot of people to say whatever they want... there's a million different opinions.

"I get that, no matter what, you're going to be criticised for something. But I also get that there are different kinds of ways to criticise someone. There's constructive criticism, there's professional criticism - and then there's just being mean. And there's a line that you cross when you just start to attack everything about a person." <b>Taylor Swift</b> Performs Free Show In NYC; Sparks Rumors She's Dating <b>...</b>

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift debuted songs from her new album, "Speak Now," at a free concert she performed in Central Park, New York City on Monday. Taylor reportedly spent the weekend in the city with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, sparking rumors that the pair are now dating.

The pair was spotted holding hands during a stroll around Brooklyn on Sunday.

The two stars attempted to stay incognito - but eagle-eyed celebrity spotters have set the blogs alight.

One bystander tells Life & Style magazine, "Taylor and Jake were walking around Park Slope holding hands. They looked like a couple!"

Swift has enjoyed romances with John Mayer and Taylor Lautner in the past year, while movie star Gyllenhaal broke off his relationship with Reese Witherspoon at the beginning of 2010.

<b>Taylor Swift</b>: By-The-Numbers | Billboard.com

Upon the release of Taylor Swift's third studio album, "Speak Now," Chart Beat looks at the numerous records that the star country singer/songwriter/producer has already set since her arrival just more than four years ago.

Swift first graced a Billboard tally when her debut single, "Tim McGraw," debuted at the anchor position (No. 60) on the Country Songs chart dated July 1, 2006.

HER 'SONG'S: Swift is the only female artist to collect five top 10s from a debut album in the 56-year history of Country Songs.

Here is a look at the Country Songs chart performance of the five singles from "Taylor Swift":

Peak Position, Title, Peak Year
No. 6, "Tim McGraw," 2007
No. 2, "Teardrops on My Guitar," 2007
No. 1 (six weeks), "Our Song," 2007-08
No. 3, "Picture to Burn," 2008
No. 1 (two weeks), "Should've Said No," 2007-08

With the six-week reign of "Our Song," Swift joined just four other women who have claimed such lengthy stays on top: Kitty Wells ("It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," six weeks, 1952); Connie Smith ("Once a Day," eight, 1964); Faith Hill ("Breathe," six, 2000); and, Carrie Underwood ("Jesus, Take the Wheel," six, 2006).

MORE TO THE 'STORY': Swift followed the unprecedented success of her first album's singles on Country Songs with an additional five top 10s from her second studio set, "Fearless."

In the chart's archives, only two other acts have banked top 10s from each of their first two releases: Brooks & Dunn notched five top 10s each from "Brand New Man" and "Hard Workin' Man" (1991-94) and Dixie Chicks hatched five top 10s from their major label debut "Wide Open Spaces" and six from "Fly" (1998-2002).

Here is a look at how the five songs promoted to radio from "Fearless" fared on Country Songs:

Peak Position, Title, Peak Year
No. 1 (two weeks), "Love Story," 2008
No. 2, "White Horse," 2009
No. 1 (two weeks), "You Belong With Me," 2009
No. 7, "Fifteen," 2009
No. 10, "Fearless," 2010

UP WHERE SHE 'BELONG'S: After becoming the first country artist to win a Moonman at the MTV Video Music Awards last year (Johnny Cash's "Hurt" was honored for Jean-Yves Escoffier's cinematography in 2003), Swift likewise broke barriers on Billboard's Radio Songs survey.

On the Oct. 3, 2009, chart, "You Belong With Me" rose 2-1 to become the first country crossover No. 1 since the radio airplay list adopted Nielsen BDS-monitored data in 1990.

Previously among country singles, Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" (1998), Faith Hill's "Breathe" (2000) and Swift's own "Love Story" (March 2009) had each peaked as high as No. 2 on Radio Songs.

'FEARLESS' PEERLESS: With 11 weeks logged at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart between November 2008 and March 2009, "Fearless" boasts the longest command for an album by a female artist in the 2000s.

In the Billboard 200's 54-year history, the set is one of just seven albums by women to rule for 11 weeks or more:

Weeks At No. 1, Artist, Title, Peak Year
20, Whitney Houston, "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, 1992
15, Carole King, "Tapestry," 1971
14, Whitney Houston, " Whitney Houston," 1986
13, Judy Garland, "Judy at Carnegie Hall," 1961
12, Alanis Morissette, "Jagged Little Pill," 1995
11, Taylor Swift, "Fearless," 2008
11, Mariah Carey, "Mariah Carey," 1991

SWIFT STARTS: When the title cut from "Speak Now" debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 two weeks ago, Swift rewrote the mark for most top 10 launches in the chart's 52-year ledger.

The song became Swift's sixth title to arrive in the Hot 100's top tier, eclipsing Mariah Carey's career sum, tallied between 1995 and 1998. Previously ahead of the release of "Speak Now," focus track "Mine" premiered at No. 3 in August.

Last week, Swift padded her lead with the No. 6 bow of "Back to December." The debut made Swift the first artist ever to begin in the Hot 100's top 10 in consecutive weeks.

Here is a recap of the acts with the most top 10 Hot 100 entrances:

7, Taylor Swift
5, Mariah Carey
4, the Beatles
4, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana
4, Eminem
4, Janet Jackson
4, Kanye West

Swift is likely to add an eighth such strong start when the Hot 100 is refreshed Thursday (Oct. 28), as "Mean," the final preview track from "Speak Now," is expected to open in the top 10.

The following week, Swift will add more accolades to her already impressive Billboard chart history with the arrival of "Speak Now" on the Billboard 200 and Country Albums.

Taylor Swift Sued By Former Manager - Starpulse.com

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift's former manager is suing the country star over cash he alleges she owes him.

Dan Dymtrow, who managed Swift when she was 14, has filed suit in federal court in New York.

He claims his management deals with the singer and her parents offered him a commission from Swift's career in return for introducing the "Love Story" star to music executives.

In the legal papers, Dymtrow claims he's owed millions of dollars in commissions for playing a key role in Swift's career. He further alleges Swift's parents delayed signing the recording contract until after he had been fired to avoid paying him his commissions.

The singer's attorney, Paul LiCalsi, tells The Hollywood Reporter that any suggestion that Dymtrow's is responsible for launching his client's career is "ludicrous."

Taylor Swift Album Set for Best Sales Week of Year - ABC News

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Taylor Swift's third album, released worldwide on Monday, is on track to score the biggest opening week of the year in the United States and could even hit one million copies, industry prognosticators said.

For now, the consensus has "Speak Now" selling between 800,000 to 900,000 copies by week's end on October 31. Depending on how quickly it flies out the doors during its first few days, the forecast could move toward one million.

So far the best sales week of the year belongs to Eminem's "Recovery," which arrived at No. 1 with 741,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The last album to sell one million copies in one week was Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III," which started its run with 1,006,000 units in June 2008.

"Speak Now's" sales must be music to the industry's ears, after many superstar album releases this year have failed to meet or exceed first-week expectations. Her last album, "Fearless," started at No. 1 with 592,000 in November 2008 and has sold 6 million copies to date.

<b>Taylor Swift</b> Dating Jake Gyllenhaal Is SUCH An Epic Upgrade <b>...</b>

(Credit: Getty Images)

Taylor Swift has come far from the days of Taylor + Taylor (Lautner, obviously) and Joe Jonas. Lately, the 20-year-old country-pop phenom just LOVES to kick it with an older dude! And it's speculated that Taylor Swift's moved on from notorious serial dater/chronic TMI-er John Mayer. It's been reported that Taylor "Fearless"-ly called John Mayer out on his "dark and twisted games" on her new song, "Dear John." And to prove that John Mayer is SO earlier-this-year, Taylor Swift has been seen spending time with steamy Jake Gyllenhaal, who's 9 years older than her. If the rumors are true, we think this liaison is an upgrade worthy of a PARADE. Prince of Persia's Jake Gyllenhaal is mind-bogglingly beautiful.

Multiple sources spotted Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal out in New York City, and Taylor even brought him to the Saturday Night Live set where her bestie Emma Stone was hosting last weekend. The pair were also reportedly seen walking around Brooklyn together, and they just went apple-picking together. Maybe Taylor's over rock stars as potential suitors and has returned to Hollywood for boyfriend fodder?

Are you guys into this unlikely pair? Or did you prefer when Taylor Swift dated within her age-bracket (and name, in the latter case) with Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner? OR, were you pro "John Tayer"? Sound off in the comments!

<b>Taylor Swift's</b> 'Speak Now' On Track for Massive Billboard 200 <b>...</b>

by Keith Caulfield, L.A.  |   October 26, 2010 2:54 EDT

Though we've yet to unveil whether Sugarland's "The Incredible Machine" or Kings of Leon's "Come Around Sundown" has won the battle for the No. 1 crown on this week's Billboard 200 chart, we're already looking at next week's chart, where Taylor Swift's "Speak Now," released on Monday (Oct. 25), is aiming for a monster debut.

Industry prognosticators are suggesting the Big Machine set may arrive with as much as 800,000 to 900,000 copies sold by week's end on Oct. 31. And, there's even a chance it could approach 1 million.

Taylor Swift: The Billboard Cover Story

Swift's start is on track be more than 2010's current biggest week, when Eminem's "Recovery" arrived at No. 1 with 741,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan. If "Speak Now's" fortunes turn out to be especially rosy, it could be the industry's first album to sell 1 million copies in one week since Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III" bowed with 1,006,000 in June of 2008.

Photos: Taylor Swift's Fashion Evolution

"Speak Now's" sales must be music to the industry's ears, after many superstar album releases this year have failed to meet or exceed first-week expectations. A month ago, sources were projecting the "Speak Now" would start with 750,000.

Taylor Swift's last album, "Fearless," started at No. 1 with 592,000 in November 2008 and has sold 6 million.

<b>Taylor Swift</b> - Speak Now Lyrics

Speak Now Lyrics by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift - Speak Now Lyrics

Taylor Swift – Speak Now Lyrics

The way you move is like a full on rainstorm
And I’m a house of cards
You say my name for the first time, baby, and I
Fall in love in an empty bar

And you stood there in front of me just
Close enough to touch
Close enough to hope you couldn’t see
What I was thinking of

Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Something that’ll haunt me when you’re not around
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

So reach out open handed
And lead me out to that floor
Well I don’t need more paper lanterns
Take me down, baby bring on the movie star

Cause my heart is beating fast
And you are beautiful
I could wait patiently but
I really wish you would

Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

http://www.hotnewsonglyrics.com/taylor-swift-speak-now-lyrics.html

Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Something that’ll haunt me when you’re not around
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

I run my fingers through your hair
And watch the lights go out
Keep your beautiful eyes on me
Gonna strike this match tonight
Lead me up the staircase
Won’t you whisper soft and slow
I’d love to hate it
But you make it like a fireworks show

Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Something that’ll haunt me when you’re not around
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

Get Jen Aniston, Taylor Swift and Megan Fox's Liner Looks! - Parade Magazine

What beauty topic does celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman get the most questions about? Liners! Whether they're brow liners, eye liners, or lip liners, women want to know the tricks to get their look just right. Here are some great hints from Brett to make sure you're using your lining tools to the best of their ability.

default-lip linerLIP LINER - Even though we're seeing a lot of deeper lip shades for the upcoming season, a soft and casual daytime look, a la Jennifer Aniston, is always in vogue. Jen's unstructured nude lip liner topped with a great gloss looks dewy and fresh.

Here's how to get Jen's look:
*Prep lips with a satin finish lip balm but don't use anything too waxy or greasy!
* Fill in the entire mouth lightly with a warm, nude, peach or pink lip pencil. Try a shade or two darker than your skin tone. The outside line should be the same light shade as the fill-in on the rest of the lips. Pad your finger over lip line to diffuse color a bit.
*Apply a shimmery apricot or soft pink gloss shade to moisten the lip. Voila - the perfect inconspicuous lined lip!
default-eye linerEYE LINER - Theatrical winged out liquid liner is becoming popular with celebs like singing sensation Taylor Swift and reality TV starlet Lauren Conrad. The look feels very modern, yet has roots in vintage Hollywood.

Here's how to get Taylor and Lauren's look: *Start by sweeping a nude matte eye shadow over the entire lid. This gives the eye a smooth surface to create the swept-out liner look.
*Choose a solid black liquid liner for the most impact. Beginning on the outer corner of the eye, go very close to the lash line and dot and dash from tear duct to outer corner. Start very thin and close to the lash line for the crispest results (fatten up the line later for more drama). Once the natural lash line is defined, finish by extending the outer corner out and up toward the temple.
*For best results, jut your chin out to open up your lid/lash line and keep chin jutted out until the liner is dry, about a minute.
default-brow linerBROW LINER - Bold is in for brows! Fuller brows make a statement and are all the rage. But even if you weren't born with big, full brows, you can add impact to your arches with a structured, dramatic brow line like Megan Fox.

Here's how to get Megan's look:
*Begin by shaping brows very crisply. Pluck away any hairs that are clearly out of place and focus on the area in-between eyes. It's very important to have a tidy brow for this dramatic look or else the fill-in can look messy and unnatural.
*Fill in the brows behind the hairs with a brow pencil that matches your eyebrows. To amp up the arch and shape, fill in just above the brow from front to tail. This thickens the brow and gives a touch of lift.
*Use a small spoolie brush or clean mascara wand to blend and refine the pencil.
*Once your fill-in is complete, take a touch of brow gel and brush hairs up and out.

Best and Worst of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards: Chelsea Handler, Taylor Swift, Kanye West - HitFix

Worst: Chelsea Handler

It pains me to say it, but Chelsea Handler was in over her head with hosting duties. The stage was just too big for her and the audience too distant. She boringly oscillated between jokes about sleeping with rappers and jokes about partying hard, sometimes with a dash of absurdist bad behavior (like trying to steal Justin Bieber's "wig").

Handler seemed handcuffed by tactless writing, some jokes so flat you could see the disappointment creep across her face as the monitors rolled. These include mostly cringe-worthy swipes at women, almost all women -- from Taylor Swift's purity image to Mariah Carey's age. Naturally, when your subjects are limited to Ke$ha's dumb name, professional trainwreck Lindsay Lohan and the brain-suck that is "Jersey Shore," things are gonna be a little rough. I just didn't think it could be this rough.

And, yes, that's Handler riding Rick Ross, riding a motorized cart.

Yahoo opens its 'chicken coop' green data center

Yahoo’s newest data center, a 155,000-square-foot facility in upstate New York, uses 40 percent less energy and 95 percent less water than conventional facilities.

The energy-efficient data center has a variety of unique traits. It gets almost all of its cooling from outdoor air, giving it a power usage effectiveness rating of 1.08, which is significantly below the industry average of 1.92. The data center, which is capable of holding 50,000 servers, has been designed like a chicken coop: the long, narrow buildings make it easier to circulate in outdoor air. The building itself is also positioned to take advantage of the prevailing winds.

Dubbed the Yahoo Computing Coop (YCC), the facility doesn’t contain any chillers. “It’s a passively cooled facility, much like you’d find in chicken coops,” explains Christina Page, director of climate and energy strategy at Yahoo. “It’s designed to maximize the pass of airflow. This is how we cooled buildings before we used the mechanical brute force of chillers.”

The data center will run Yahoo services like Mail, Messenger and Flickr.

The data center is touted to use 40 percent less electricity than typical data centers and will only spend one percent of its energy bill on cooling. Yahoo is currently seeking a patent for its Chicken Coop design that it could use as a model when building future data centers. The company, which has been looking to reinvent itself in the wake of Google’s rise, clearly has not lost its innovative roots.

The U.S. Department of Energy gave Yahoo a $9.9 million grant toward the cost of the facility. The DOE wants to encourage better energy practices in data centers, which account for a growing proportion of U.S. energy use.
